ASK-MI
Arizona Supports Kids with Mental Illness
"There is no great genius without a mixture of madness" - Aristotle
"When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on" -Franklin D. Roosevelt
ASK-MI is a network of Arizona families with one or more children living with mental illness. As parents, we have been frustrated over the years as we tried to get our childrens' medical, educational, and social needs met. We often felt very isolated and alone as we struggled with these difficulties. We families also face the additional burden of living in one of the worst states in the nation for both children's and mental health issues. A few of us did connect and we found strength and support by banding together. So we decided to pool our time, talents and information to help one another, our kids and to reach out to other families.
Our group is composed of two parts: a "round robin" email group, hosted on Yahoo! Groups, and monthly meetings in the Phoenix area with guest speakers. (Childcare is available, along with a RideShare program.) We plan to establish a 4-H Club for our kids in the very near future, along with family events.
